CREVE COEUR, Mo. - Pattonville and Maryland Heights firefighters were called to an ice rescue at Creve Coeur Park Wednesday. When they arrived, they found a dog stranded in the middle of Creve Coeur Lake, struggling to stay afloat.

Firefighters dove into the frigid water and pulled the dog to shore.

"One of the things we fear when we are going for an animal a canine is that the owners will stop at nothing to get the dogs, so you have to act and respond to keep them safe as to do a humanitarian thing and rescue a dog," said Capt. Mark Stillpass, Creve Coeur Fire Department.

The dog's owners said he went to chase geese along the partially frozen lake when he fell in.

Firefighters took the dog back to an ambulance and warmed him up with a special blanket. The dog is said to be doing well.
