VINITA TERRACE, Mo. – A two-alarm fire started inside a Vinita Terrace church Thursday afternoon.
The fire started around 4:30 p.m. at the Village Church of St. Louis in the 8100 block of Page Avenue. It quickly went to a second alarm.
Officials believe an electrical problem started the fire in the steeple. Smoke and water damaged the sanctuary, and it won't be able to be used for worship services anytime soon.
Pastor Michelle McGhee told NewsChannel 5's Farrah Fazal they've already had several offers from nearby churches to help out with a place to hold services.
McGhee went on to say the food pantry was not damaged. They are doing what they can in an effort to re-open the pantry Saturday because they know many people rely on the food they receive to survive.
