ST. LOUIS - A meat market was one of two businesses in flames as firefighters scrambled to extinguish a blaze in north St. Louis Monday morning.

The fire broke out around 5:30 a.m. in the rear of a building near the intersection of E. Grand Boulevard and 20th Street.

The fire quickly spread to a nearby business as firefighters worked to contain the situation. A spokesman for the St. Louis Fire Department said the near freezing temperatures slowed the process down.

The owner of the meat market, Obama Shalabi, said there was a small electrical fire at his business two years ago but remodeled the shop. And while he's coping with the shock of losing his business, Shalabi promises he will rebuild it anew.
