JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - A local web design company is being sued by the state for allegedly failing to provide services for customers after already receiving down payments, Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster said Thursday.

According to the lawsuit filed in St. Charles County Circuit, Stadio Studio LLC solicited clients for website services, oftentimes through Craigslist. The company asked perspective clients to provide 50 percent of the total cost of services up front before any work began on a project.

The attorney general's office claims Stadio Studio failed to provide web design services for at least 11 customers, and stopped communicating with them when they asked for refunds. The web designer is accused of cheating customers out of approximately $12,000.

The man who runs Stadio Studio, Michael Allton, also operates a similar web design and hosting firm named Social Media Hat, which he's failed to register as a business with the state.

Koster's lawsuit seeks full restitution to customers and an order preventing Allton from advertising or engaging in any web design services in the state, in addition to fines.

Customers who have contracted with Stadia Studio, LLC, Michael Allton, or Social Media Hat for website design, development or hosting services that they have not received should contact the attorney general's consumer hotline at 800-392-8222 or online at to file a complaint.
