WOOD RIVER, Ill. – An Amtrak train headed to Chicago from St. Louis came off its tracks near Wood River, Ill.

The accident happened Thursday morning near Reuter Street, which runs parallel to IL Route 3. The wheels on the locomotive and a rail car behind it came off the tracks while switching tracks.

Amtrak train 203 was carrying 106 passengers and four crew members. They were removed from the train and taken via charter buses to Chicago.

The cause of the switching failure is under investigation.
