ST. LOUIS – The Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District is prepared for the possibility of heavy rain and melting snow on Friday.
Warmer temperatures melting the 12+ inches and rain on Friday could cause flooding in the area, especially if heavy rain falls over a short period of time.
A spokesperson for MSD says they have tripled the number of crews whose only job is to clear inlets. They will focus on low-lying areas where there are known drainage accumulations. The number of crews on standby, ready to report for duty if necessary, have also been tripled.
The sewer system is capable of handling the volume of water that could be produced, but it must make it into the 130,000 inlets in the area.
Area residents are asked to visually check inlets in their neighborhoods. If one is covered by snow, ice, or debris, clear it away. If it cannot be easily cleared, call MSD at 314-768-6260 or email them at firstname.lastname@example.org.
