ST. LOUIS – Residents of a south St. Louis neighborhood have taken it upon themselves to begin clearing the road.

Neighbors in the Tower Grove East neighborhood met at the intersection of Pestalozzi and Virginia to begin clearing the street of the 12.5 inches of snow that fell on Sunday. Overnight, another inch accumulated.

An image posted on The Shaved Duck's Facebook page showed three people with shovels attempting to clear some of the snow.

"Dear city of saint louis [sic] we love you very much but your snow ploughing skills are bloody awful. We are now forced to shovel the streets ourselves," the restaurant wrote.

An hour after the photo was posted it had more than 200 shares and more than 100 likes.

Later Thursday afternoon a media briefing is expected announcing a new plan to plow residential side streets.

Around 2:45 p.m. Thursday, Mayor Francis Slay announced on Twitter the Streets Department has started to plow side streets.

He says the plowing will take one day to complete. If they miss your street, you are asked to tweet the Citizens' Service Bureau Friday at @stlcsb.
