BELLEVILLE, Ill. - It wasn't exactly the right kind of weather Wednesday for a swim, but the Belleville Fire Department spent the day jumping in and out of a frozen pond at Centennial Park.

Deputy Chief Tom Pour says the firefighters practiced pulling victims in and out of the water using thermal suits and boats. It's something he says they haven't had to practice in a while, because there wasn't much ice the past couple of years.

Pour says the drills are a critical part of training, and they plan on keeping the suits in the battalion chief's vehicle, which means they will be able to get them to anywhere in Belleville in about four minutes.
