ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KSDK) – Tornado sirens blared Tuesday afternoon after a technician accidentally hit the wrong button.

It started at 2:30 p.m. The county performs weekly "silent tests" to make sure that the sirens are working. That "silent test" became much louder than anticipated when an experienced technician -- who had been doing the tests for five years -- hit the "activation button" instead of the "silent testing button."

Officials say it's the first time something like this has happened. A review is underway to see if any improvements to the current system are necessary, and those results should be available in the next couple of days.

No additional information was immediately available.
