ST. LOUIS -The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of a train derailment Wednesday morning in the southwest part of the city.
The derailment occurred just before 2 a.m. in the Burlington Northern Sante Fe Lindenwood Yard, located at Interstate 44 and Wellington Avenue, just south of Arsenal Street.
Crews were working in the rail yard to move 18 empty inter-module rail cars when they derailed.
All but one of the train cars derailed inside the yard. That lone car was on a bridge overlooking Wellington. Police were called out to ensure public safety while the rail car was pulled off the bridge.
The mess has been moved out of the way, and rail traffic reopened around 1:30 p.m.
Nobody was injured.
The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
