ST. LOUIS COUNTY - The new chief of the St. Louis County Police Department will be announced Friday.

There are three candidates in the running to succeed the outgoing chief, Tim Fitch: Lt. Col. Kenneth Cox, Lt. Col. Kenneth Gregory, and Lt. Col. Jon Belmar.

The County Board of Police Commissioners has been interviewing all three men up for the job. The commissioners will meet Friday at 8 a.m. to deliberate and choose the next chief.

Currently, there are only three active police commissioners. Usually, there are five, but because they have a quorum, the active commissioners are allowed to make the decision.

Chief Tim Fitch announced his retirement last month. He served with the St. Louis County Police for 31 years and served as chief for nearly five. He is leaving to start his own public safety consulting business.

Thursday night, a large retirement party to celebrate his career was held in the Crystal Ballroom of the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Clayton.
