ST. LOUIS - The Missouri Department of Transportation will close all eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 in downtown St. Louis beginning this Sunday.
According to Andrew Gates, a MoDOT spokesman, the lanes will close at 6 p.m. so crews can remove a retaining wall along the interstate near Walnut Street. People can view the ongoing construction on the Walnut Street Bridge via a live camera.
One eastbound lane will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, February 3. The other lane will reopen by 3 p.m. after crews make pavement repairs to the right lane of eastbound I-70.
MoDOT will close I-70 eastbound between Pine Street and the Poplar Street Bridge. The detour for eastbound traffic will be to take the Pine Street ramp to southbound Memorial Drive and continue south to either I-55 or the bridge.
The work is part of preparations for the upcoming Park Over the Highway project, part of the larger CityArchRiver 2015 initiative.
Gates said the work will not affect access to the Gateway Arch.
