ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Quite a few drivers followed the Missouri Department of Transportation's warning to stay off the roads Tuesday.

That's good news for road crews, but bad news for local businesses. This latest winter storm adds to what's already been a tough winter for many small businesses.

One of the owners of Thro's Men's and Boy's Clothing says when they see snow in the forecast, they wonder if they'll be open, how long they'll stay open, if they'll get any customers, or if they're just spinning their wheels. He says the traffic they miss on days like this may not come back.

Curtis Wilcoxen, who works at Lloyd and Harry's, agrees that this has been a different type of winter.

"We're a patio bar. So this is our slow season anyway. But it's Missouri, sometimes you get that weird hot December day and we might have a good pop. But we haven't had those," he said.

"It's dead. When it snows down here, people don't come down here. Snow or rain, people stay away," said Brian Cowser.
