ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - The new chief of the St. Louis County Police Department says his "to do" list is long but he's confident about the team he's taking over.
Chief Jon Belmar visited NewsChannel 5 studios Monday morning to discuss that "to do" list.
Belmar, 50, grew up in North St. Louis County, went to Hazelwood Central High School, and graduated from Arkansas State University with a bachelor's degree in criminology. He has 28 years of experience with the county police force, and was one of three finalists for the job of St. Louis County's top cop.
Belmar replaces former Chief Tim Fitch, who often has locked horns with county government leaders.
The married father of two says he'll have the same independent streak as Chief Fitch.
