BERKELEY, Mo. - An early morning house fire in Berkeley claimed the lives of two children Monday.
An early morning house fire in Berkeley claimed the lives of two children Monday.
The fire occurred around 5:30 a.m. in the 8200 block of Airport Road.
Firefighters found the two children, ages 2 and 4, near the front door of the small, single-family residence. The mother and father, identified as Steve and Cheronna Towns, escaped the home with a four-month-old, but had to be taken to a local hospital.
The father is still in critical condition as of Monday night, both the mother and daughter are doing better.
The victims have been identified by Hope Church as Stephen and Isaiah. Berkeley Fire Chief Henry Williams said the cause of the fire has not been determined.
According to Berkeley Fire Department, there is no immediate evidence of foul play, but the investigation is ongoing.
A fundraising campaign has been established for the victims. Donations can be made through FundRazr, an online donation website.
