ST. LOUIS – Great Rivers Greenway District announced the purchase of the former site of the Switzer Licorice building, which was torn down in 2007.

The property sits directly north of the Eads Bridge, st 612 N. First Street.

Great Rivers Greenway District hopes to turn the lot into a park or development with food and restrooms to enhance the experience for visitors of the neighboring Gateway Arch and Lacelde's Landing.

"We are very pleased to have acquired this property," said Susan Trautman, executive director of Great Rivers Greenway District. "Not only will it provide a universally accessible connection to the Arch grounds, it has the potential to create larger connections across the region and spur future development."

The property was purchased from St. John's Bank for $350,000. The property is appraised at $390,000.
