WARRENTON, Mo. (KSDK) - Kevin Dern had what seemed like a good plan: he and his wife would leave a film festival in Columbia Saturday night to come home and beat the weather and potential traffic.

Unfortunately, an accident on I-70 eastbound involving an 18-wheeler kept Dern and his wife trapped in their car for several hours overnight into Sunday morning.

In a phone interview with NewsChannel 5 anchors Kelly Jackson and Pat McGonigle, Dern said he and his wife had filled the gas tank before getting on the interstate, allowing them to keep the car running and the heater on.

One lane reopened at 8:50 a.m., and Dern tweeted he and his wife were finally starting to move, after being stuck on the interstate for seven hours and 45 minutes.
