CASEYVILLE, Ill. - Jose Alvarez will remain the chief of police in Caseyville until at least March 19.

On Friday, the chief and the village reached an agreement that freezes all hiring or firing of Alvarez until the village board meets later this month.

Mayor Len Black tried to fire Alvarez twice, but the board voted to keep him. Since then, Alvarez was seen shouting at village officials during a board meeting last week.

The mayor says that rant, and a number of other issue is the reason he wants Alverez gone.

The village trustees will have the final say on March 19.
