ST. LOUIS – Board of Aldermen President Lewis Reed is attempting to get the White House involved to keep hundreds of jobs in downtown St. Louis.

Last week, the announcement came that the U.S. government will consolidate Veterans Affairs operations in the area and move 800 jobs from downtown into St. Louis County.

Late Sunday night, Reed created an online petition at WhiteHouse.gov to keep those jobs in the City of St. Louis.

About 180 VA employees will leave the Robert A. Young Federal Building downtown, and another 640 will move from a building on South 18th Street. All will be relocated to Overland in St. Louis County.

By Monday evening the petition had 81 signatures. You can sign the petition on the WhiteHouse.gov website.
