WILDWOOD, Mo. – A father and son have been found dead inside Babler State Park, both with gunshot wounds to the head.
Police say a couple walking on a nearby path discovered the two men at around 5:30 p.m Tuesday. The ensuing investigation prompted authorities to evacuate everyone in the park other than a group of students from Crestview Middle School, who are on a camping trip.
Police say the father was middle-aged, and the son was in his 20s. Their car was found near the scene, which was located just off the main road about a mile from the park entrance.
A couple walking in the park saw the bodies and called police. We're told the victims were lying in a grassy area near a hiking trail.
"We were just going to take a walk on a trail and we saw the bodies," said James Hosack
But at first, James says he didn't know exactly what he was seeing.
"We thought they were sunbathing at first. And then we saw it was really gory and then realized it was real," said Hosack.
A spokesperson for Crestview Middle School says the students are in a different area of the park, quite a ways away. The students are unaware of the situation.
St. Louis County police remain at the scene and are not letting anyone enter or exit the park while they investigate.
