ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. – A woman accused of being intoxicated when she t-boned another car, killing the driver more than one year ago, has been charged.
Shara M. Frison, 35, is charged with aggravated DUI – no valid insurance for the Februrary 2013 accident that killed 24-year-old Brooke Bahmler of Ballwin.
Bahmler was the designated driver after a night at Laclede's Landing with her 22-year-old sister, Abbie, and a friend. Bahmnler took the wrong exit on Interstate 55 and ended up in Sauget. Her vehicle was t-boned by Frison while she made a u-turn at a stop sign on Route 3 at Yellow Brick Road.
Abbie Bahmler was riding in the passenger seat and was critically injured. The sisters' friend suffered minor injuries.
In February 2014 the Bahmler family told 5 on Your Side's Leisa Zigman they felt someone had dropped the ball because the accident reconstruction report had not been finished by Illinois State Police.
"I think the state of Illinois should be ashamed of how it's handled my daughter's death," Brooke and Abbie's mother, Jan, said at the time.
5 on Your Side requested that Gov. Pat Quinn's office look into the Bahmler's complaint. A spokesperson said the report was done, but needed a few more signatures.
A few days later the accident report was released, and stated Frison sobriety test showed she was at nearly double the legal drinking limit.
Frison's bail is set at $50,000. She is not in custody.
