ST. LOUIS – They spread the blues Wednesday night in St. Louis.

Musicians paid tribute to the father of blues at the Schlafly Tap Room downtown.

A clay model of W.C. Handy was unveiled at the benefit. Handy composed the 1914 jazz classic "St. Louis Blues."

The W.C. Memorial Foundation is trying to raise $115,000 to build a bronze sculpture of Handy at 6th and Washington, near the new National Blues Museum. It would be sculpted by Harry Weber, who also created the Chuck Berry statue in the Delmar Loop.
