ST. LOUIS – The remains of a soldier killed at Fort Hood last week will arrive in St. Louis Friday.
The body U.S. Army Sgt. Timothy Owens, originally from Effingham, Ill., will be flown to Lambert-St. Louis International Airport, arriving shortly before 1:30 p.m.
Jeff Lea, a spokesperson for the airport, says a military guard will be present as Owens is transferred to his family. Missouri Highway Patrol officers and Patriot Guard members will be present for the escort from Lambert to Dixon, Mo.
A candlelight vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Effingham County Courthouse Museum lawn.
Owens was one of three people killed during a shooting spree April 2. Sixteen others were wounded.
The shooter, identified as Spc. Ivan Lopez, killed himself after the rampage. He was being treated for depression and anxiety before the shooting.
