CARLINVILLE, Ill. - A world record attempt is underway on an Illinois soccer field.

NewsChannel 5 caught up with soccer players at Blackburn College in Carlinville, Ill. Friday morning. They're trying to set a world record for the longest soccer game ever played, with a goal of 76 hours.

The idea was inspired by their coach's 2-year-old son, Jackson Steinkuehler, who battled brain cancer, requiring four surgeries at St. Louis Children's Hospital.

The soccer team hopes to raise $100,000 for pediatric cancer research.

"It's going to be a very emotional day. I think once the sun hits Sunday morning, spirits are going to be high and we're going to be rocking and rolling," said Rob Steinkuehler.

The big game all comes to an end Sunday at 5 p.m.
