SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE (KSDK) – Secretary of the Air Force Deborah Lee James, Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon and U.S. Senators Dick Durbin and Mark Kirk will visit Scott Air Force Base Tuesday.

It's a move by Illinois politicians to show how important the base is to the region. A similar event happened during March when Sen. Durbin said the visits were a part of a preemptive move in case Congress moves forward in closing bases around the country.

The group will tour Scott's Air Operations Center and the 126th Air Refueling Wing. They will also meet area civic and business leaders.

The base survived a closure in 2005.
