ST. LOUIS - St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay is responding to Schnucks' decision to close a grocery store in north St. Louis.

Schnucks announced this week it will not renew the lease on its store at Grand and Kossuth.

On Tuesday, Slay talked about the decision on his blog.

"From a public health standpoint, this is not good news," said Slay. "It is more difficult to help people live healthier lives if something reduces convenient access to fresh foods and vegetables."

CEO Todd Schnuck said the company invested heavily in the location, but nothing helped improve the store's performance.
