ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Police will have more officers in Tower Grove South Wednesday.

The area is the latest "hot spot" policing initiative, which is aimed at cutting down on crime by focusing extra resources in a particular area of the city.

Overall crime has risen in the neighborhood compared to the same time last year, specifically theft has seen a big increase.

This is also the same neighborhood where an 11-year-old boy was shot and killed exactly three weeks ago. There have been no arrests in that case.

This is the second time in recent months police have focused on Tower Grove South.

People living here can expect to see more patrol cars, uniformed officers and plain-clothes officers for the next couple of weeks.

The department is also planning a "hot spot" effort in the North St. Louis neighborhood of Wells-Goodfellow next month.
