ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – Metro Transit will begin smart card testing this summer and is looking for participants in its trial, according to its blog, Next Stop.
Last year, Metro installed smart card fare collection system onto the Metro buses and now the equipment has been installed for Metrolink and will be tested before being fully implemented.
Smart cards are passes that hold cash value and will allow passengers to simply tap their card on a validator or fare box to board the train or bus. Validators will light up with a green or red light to indicate acceptance of the fare. Cards are reloadable and will not expire as long as the card is active.
For those interested in possibly being selected to test the smart card on Metrolink, they must fill out a survey, which can be found here. A select number of customers will be chosen for the pilot program that will help identify issues with the system and bring in the new technology to the area.
Participants will also have a chance to win a monthly pass or a great prize.
