ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis priest previously charged with felony child endangerment and witness tampering is now accused of having sex with a child under the age of 14.
The Xiuhui Jiang, also known as the Rev. Joseph Jiang, is charged with two counts of first-degree statutory sodomy – deviate sexual intercourse with a person less than 14-years-old.
The probable cause statement from the St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office accuses 30-year-old Jiang of sexual contact with a young boy twice between July 1, 2011 and August 1, 2012 in the City of St. Louis.
The Archdiocese of St. Louis released a statement Friday stating the allegation was "reported through the Missouri Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline by a family who over the past year has been pursuing a claim against the archdiocese related to their child being bullied by other students. The family had never claimed that their child was abused by a priest until this week."
The statement goes on to say Jiang's canonical privileges are suspended while the allegations are investigated. You can read the archdiocese's complete statement below this story.
The previous allegations against Jiang were dismissed in November 2013.
