ST. LOUIS – A scrap yard fire sent smoke billowing into the air in north St. Louis Wednesday afternoon.
The fire started in a piece of grinding machinery at Grossman Scrap Yard, which chops up the non-magnetic pieces of scrap cars. During the grinding process, pieces can become extremely hot. One of those hot pieces came into contact with something flammable on the conveyer belt.
The area was smoky, but nobody was injured.
