BRIDGETON, Mo. (KSDK) - Interstate 270 reopened in Bridgeton in time for the Friday morning rush hour following a deadly accident overnight.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 12:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-270, just south of St. Charles Rock Road.

Investigators said 30-year-old Lamont Purley was driving a 2001 Ford Mustang when he lost control of his car, struck the concrete median, and crashed into the back of a MoDOT street sweeper vehicle. Purley was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 45-year-old driver of the street sweeper was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
