St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - Fire has heavily damaged a southwest St. Louis house, which is the home of a City of St. Louis firefighter.

The first-alarm blaze was reported early Monday at a home in the 6900 block of Winona. Firefighters from both St. Louis and Shrewsbury responded to knock the fire down. All of the residents escaped without any injuries reported.

Preliminary findings suggest an early lightning strike may have been the cause of some arcing wires inside the home, a problem the homeowner addressed sometime before midnight.

It was around 3:30 a.m. Monday when smoke alarms went off to alert the family of another problem. When firefighters arrived, flames were already visible in the attic and roof of the one and a half story frame home.

Damage is said to be significant. The investigation is ongoing.
