ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KSDK) – Two Washintgon University in St. Louis students have been hospitalized after being struck by a car near Forsyth and Hoyt on campus.

A car hit Shana Zucker and Richard Lee, who were crossing the street after an off-campus formal, according to Washington University spokesman. Both students are in fair condition.

The driver of the accident fled but has been taken into police custody. Washington University officials confirmed in a news release that the suspect is a student.

St. Louis County is handling the accident reconstruction, while Washington University campus police are investigating the accident.

This statement provides an update regarding the incident that occurred last evening on Hoyt Drive on the Washington University Danforth Campus. As was shared early this morning, Washington University Police have jurisdiction over the incident. They have recovered the vehicle that was involved and a suspect is in custody. We now also can confirm that the suspect is a student of Washington University.
Washington University Police are continuing to investigate the incident. Once the investigation is complete, the case will be presented to the St. Louis County Prosecutor's office, which will consider formal charges. Because this is an ongoing investigation, no further details will be provided at this time.
The status of the two victims – also Washington University students – has not changed. They continue to be treated at Barnes-Jewish Hospital for injuries sustained in the incident and remain in fair condition.
