WELLSTON, Mo. - The FBI went inside Wellston City Hall Monday, but the question is, why?
NewsChannel 5 was there and found a couple of St. Louis County police officers guarding the front entrance to the City Hall. They kept residents away who showed up to pay bills and settle tickets.
Visitors were told that City Hall was closed for the time being, but that's about it. The chief of police tells us that federal agents and county officers showed up with a warrant to search the building.
There has been some recent turmoil in Wellston. The mayor had been kicked out of office, then ran for re-election a few weeks later and won. But city officials say she cannot hold office because she was kicked out.
It's not clear if that is connected to Monday's search.
