EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – A new provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs for the Edwardsville campus of Southern Illinois University has been confirmed.
Dr. Parviz Ansari was confirmed by the board of trustees Thursday. Since 2012 he has served as dean of the College of Science and Mathematics at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey, and was the founding dean of the university's School of Biomedical Science.
"SIUE is a wonderful student-centered university with excellent programs, dedicated faculty and staff, and visionary leadership," said Ansari. "I am thrilled to join them and collaborate with them to advance the mission of the University."
Ansari managed seven departments as Rowan's dean of CSM. From 2009 until 2012 Ansari served as dean of Rowan's College of Liberal Arts and Science, overseeing 14 departments.
He started his academic career at St. Michael's College in Vermont as a visiting assistant professor of physics. Between 1983 and 2009 Ansari worked at Seton Hall University, serving as chair of the department of physics from 1994 until 2005, and then as associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences from 2006 until 2009.
Ansari received a bachelor's in physics from Pahlavi (Shiraz) University in 1976 and earned a master's and doctorate in physics and astronomy from Tufts University.
