ST. LOUIS - Mother's Day weekend is traditionally a time when people start planting, and there was plenty of that going on in downtown St. Louis Friday.

Volunteers from Gateway Greening spent a beautiful morning and afternoon placing flowers and plants in the landscape beds in Kiener Plaza. On Saturday they will do the same thing to the medians along Market Street.

This year the flowers they chose represent the colors of the St. Louis flag to honor the city's 250th birthday.
