WASHINGTON - A St. Louis County police officer jumped into action to save a man at a memorial service Wednesday night.

Officer Gary Robertson was at the National Police Week Ceremony in Washington, D.C. when a ceremonial bagpipe player collapsed. Robertson and another officer from Orlando rushed in and performed CPR on the 63-year-old man.

"I checked for a pulse, determined he was pulse-less and from there we started the chest compressions," said Robertson.

The officers also used an automated defibrillator until medics could arrive.

Police say the bagpipe player suffered a heart problem. He's recovering at a hospital in serious, but stable condition.
