JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. (KSDK) – A 26-year-old woman faces charges related to the death of her 21-month-old son, according to Jefferson County Sheriff Oliver Boyer.

Lacey Kurtz, of House Springs, Mo., faces a charge of abuse or neglect of a child resulting in death.

The incident happened in October 2013, according to Sheriff Boyer.

Kertz said she took multiple drugs, including methamphetamine, Vicodin, morphine and a Xanax, prior to her son's death and while he was in her care, according to court documents. She also breastfed him after ingesting the drugs, but she said she wasn't sure if he had consumed any of her milk.

She also said she gave him two Melatonin pills and possibly children's Tylenol to help him sleep, according to the documents. She also caught him him earlier with a prescription bottle in his hand.

Kertz didn't seek medical attention for the boy, according to documents.

A medical examiner's report showed morphine and hydromorphone in her drug test. The boy's cause of death was determined to be morphine intoxication, and he tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine, hydromorphone and morphine.

Wednesday, investigators arrested Kertz in Barnhart, Mo. She's being held in Jefferson County Jail on no bond.
