EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. – The City of East St. Louis has issued a response to a story NewsChannel 5 aired this week.
Farrah Fazal reported Wednesday that drivers issued radar tickets in East St. Louis aren't legal, according to St. Clair County State's Attorney Brendan Kelly. He says a third-party company is issuing the tickets and telling drivers they must pay a fine when they do not have the authority to do so.
On Thursday, East St. Louis Mayor Alvin Parks issued a statement saying the city was surprised by Kelly's comments. He says the city attorney and police chief have been meeting with county officials including Kelly, and the county has agreed that the city has the authority to issue citations.
