Brian's hiding out in Olive Garden's kitchen in Columbia, Mo. waiting to pull off the one thing he wanted to do first when he was back on American soil.

Surprise his mom.

Brian pretended to be a waiter, bringing ordered drinks to the table.

"Here you go mama!"

"Ohhhh!!!!! Oh my God!"

"Did I get you?"

"Oh my god. Welcome home buddy!"

"Thank you."

"Shock and awe and my heart is pounding 'cause he's home," she said.

"Happy to be home."

"I believe him, my other son, and my mom, everybody else knew but me. I had absolutely no idea he was going to be here today."

It wasn't just his family that was excited to see him, strangers came over to give their well wishes and thank him too.

And one more family member was left to be surprised.

"A weight has been lifted off, now we just need dad to come back and our family will be whole."

Tammy's husband, Brian's stepdad, is also currently serving in Afghanistan.

The family says he should be back in January of 2015.

Both he and Brian are engineers for the army.
