ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - The site of giant gas explosion in Lafayette Square could take another step toward new development. Many may remember when the Praxair site erupted in a mid-afternoon fireball 9 years ago.
The former Praxair lot has sat vacant for a while; but it could take a big step forward and eventually be redeveloped.
A city committee recently voted to rezone the area from industrial to commercial. The St. Louis Board of Aldermen is expected to vote on that recommendation Thursday morning, clearing the way for future development.
Many may remember the scene from 2005. The gas storage facility exploded and you could see a smoke cloud in the air for miles. It shut down Interstate 64, which delayed the Cardinals game. No one was hurt.
