EUREKA, Mo. – A Rockwood School District teacher died Friday afternoon in a motorcycle accident after leaving school.

A spokesperson for the Rockwood School District identifies the teacher as 28-year-old Will Gillespie, a study hall teacher at Eureka High School.

Scott Barthelmass, public information officer for the Eureka Fire Department, says his department responded to a motorcycle accident in front of the school at 12:49 p.m. Barthelmass says Gillespie collided with a truck and was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

Dr. Dave Wedlock, principal of Francis Howell High School, says Gillespie was also a volleyball coach at his school. Wedlock says Gillespie had worked as an assistant coach for both the girls and boys teams for four years.

Wedlock says counselors will be at school Tuesday when students return to class to provide support for the loss.

Family members say Gillespie was a Marine. He enlisted in 2005 and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2006 and 2008.

There's no word on what caused the accident.
