ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – A man told police that he was stabbed in the chest and assaulted after he told four unidentified men that he did not have a lighter.
It happened at about 2:15 p.m. near the intersection of Keokuk and Broadway in south St. Louis. The victim, identified by police as a 36-year-old man, was walking south on Broadway when he says four unidentified men approached him.
After telling one suspect that he did not have a lighter, another suspect stabbed him in the chest with an unidentified object, before all four began to kick and punch him, according to police. Authorities say they couldn't find a crime scene.
After the assault, police say the victim went to a home, and was later taken to a local hospital after he realized that he'd been stabbed. He is currently listed in stable condition.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
