ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – St. Louis Children's Hospital has been named among the best children's hospitals in the country, according to U.S. News and World Report.
St. Louis Children's Hospital ranked high in all 10 pediatric specialties considered by the report and is the only one in Missouri to do so. SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center also ranked high in three of the 10 specialties.
More than 180 pediatric hospitals were surveyed for "U.S. News Best Children's Hospitals 2014-2015" and only 21 ranked in all 10 specialties.
St. Louis Children's Hospital ranked in the top 10 for three specialties, including neurology and neurosurgery (No. 5), pulmonology (No. 8) and orthopedics (No. 10).
SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center had three of 10 specialties rank high, including, gastroenterology and GI surgery (No. 31), cardiology and heart surgery (No. 33) and nephrology (No. 46).
The pediatric hospitals were evaluated in three categories: resources, delivery of healthcare and clinical outcomes. The survey added best practices and infection to its methodology and gave higher consideration to these factors compared to individual hospital reputation.
Both hospitals partner up with area educational institutions as teaching hospitals. SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical center is affiliated with Saint Louis University Schools of Medicine and Nursing as well as nine other educational institutions. St Louis Children's Hospital partners up with Washington University.
