BRECKENRIDGE HILLS, Mo. - A controversial plan to lay off a small town's police force, is now off the table.

Mayor Jack Shrewsberry of Breckenridge Hills recently said the city can no longer afford its own department. So he wanted to use officers from nearby St. Ann, saving the town about $400,000 a year.

But this week, after outcry from residents, the city council voted down the idea.
