ST. LOUIS - As summer approaches, Ameren Missouri is giving its customers a few tips as to how they can keep their air conditioning bills down when it gets hotter.
The St. Louis-based utility company has a rebate program. Under the program, a homeowner can replace the following items and receive money back for:
1. Replacing air conditioning unit, a resident can receive up to $475 back.
2. Replacing a heat pump, a resident can receive up to $800 back.
3. Replacing a geothermal unit, a resident can receive up to $1,200 back.
"If you're a homeowner, you keep more of the money that you own," said Cara Dolly, manager of energy efficiency for Ameren Missouri.
Ameren Illinois also offers incentives to its customers. Illinois residents can save money on central air conditioners and electric heat pumps. But, those aren't the only ways homeowners can save money during the summer.
Dolly said residents should clear the debris around the AC units and also schedule tune-ups. On top of that, she said try to turn off your air conditioning unit when you don't need it.
"When you don't use it, you don't pay for it," Dolly said.
