ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. – A former Columbia, Ill. man will head to federal prison related to receiving and possessing child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney for Southern District of Illinois Stephen Wigginton.
Neil Purdy, 30, will serve 108 months in prison as well as 10 years of supervised release for two counts of child pornography charges.
According to court documents, a 2012 investigation started around Purdy, who also was in the Navy Reserve with top secret clearance, for molesting a 14-year-old.
He admitted to Columbia police officers that he had molested the 14-year-old as well as had a problem, according to the documents. He also said he had 15 videos and less than 20 images of child pornography on his laptop through a file sharing service program.
The documents also showed that Purdy had attempted to take administrative leave from the Reserve while under investigation to avoid dishonorable discharge.
Purdy must also pay a $5,000 fine, $200 special assessment and register as a sex offender after his release.
He previously served 180 days in Monroe County Jail for sex abuse in the 14-year-old molestation case.
