ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – After 32 years of early and late phone calls, school closings, directing and working in broadcast, KSDK loses one of its own.

Ron Brooks, longtime TD director and production supervisor, celebrated his last day with family and colleagues in the KSDK newsroom Wednesday.

Brooks started at the station in 1982 because he wanted to direct St. Louis Cardinals broadcasts. Coincidentally, that's the same year that the Cardinals won the World Series, which gave him a great start.

He stopped here on his way to Australia, he said, but stuck around to direct shows and take on the challenge of ushering the newsroom into the computer age and helped develop systems for school closings and election night results among a number of roles at the station. He also served in a number of roles with the information technology department and coordinating production assistants.

Ron Brooks serves not only as someone who is irreplaceable in a newsroom position but as a friend, comrade and all-around good soul.

He will be greatly missed by NewsChannel 5, but we wish him well.
