ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - While most people are spending this Fourth of July celebrating America's Independence for one couple, it's also a day to celebrate a new beginning.

Our cameras were out in Carondelet Park when we ran across Lance Cpl. Matthew Lockett and his beautiful bride Samantha.

They let us crash the party for a while and shared the story of how they met. The pair first new each other in eighth grade, but fell in love after high school. He's in training on the West Coast and only had a short window to come home and marry, before he deploys in November.

"All the people that came out and showed us they were going to be here," Samantha said. "It was only supposed to be a private wedding and all these people showed up because they cared so that's what's going to mean the most and the fact that he could come home.

As Samantha's mom, Sandy Lay, pointed out, there are more than just patriotic benefits of getting married on the Fourth of July.

"They'll never forget their anniversary and there will be fireworks tonight, how 'bout that!" she said.
