KSDK - Unique celebrations are taking place all across the bi-state for this Independence Day weekend. Thousands of people poured into celebrate right on the river in St. Charles on Friday.
And in Arnold, people got the chance to have some fun while giving back to the community by buying concessions, which benefited the local food pantry.
In Columbia, Illinois, the annual bash felt more like a backyard barbeque as visitors played washers and gathered around the grill. The celebration has been going on for decades and hasn't changed much, according to longtime organizers.
"It's pretty much the same, it's still a family affair and still something everyone in town looks forward to, and especially me," said Grace Volkert, who helped organize Columbia's first celebration in 1976.
